Where are the Seminars Held?

The seminars are held at our home, which is situated within walking distance of Ely Station and is 3 minutes from the A10. Ely is only an hour and a half up the M11 from the London area and 75 minutes by train from Kings Cross. (We can pick you up at Ely station on request). There are many small hotels available if you want to stay over for a fresh start on the day of the seminar. We can advise on contact details for those local hotels on request. Don't forget Ely is on the river and boasts a fantastic Cathedral and many places of historical interest. Our full address is on the contact page of our web site.

Where do I park?

We can accommodate 4 cars off road, so you car will be on site and secure

How are the seminars conducted.

We use an Epson digital projector to throw a large image onto a screen, so all those attending can see clearly. We use a PC for our demonstrations and we also have a large number of prints (24in by 16in) for you to evaluate. We find this helps those attending to relate better to what is created on the PC to what we can expect in a large print. Those attending can sit at a comfortable table where notes can be taken. Barry can respond to individuals needs and while the subjects are broadly set, the detail and depth of coverage can be determined by those attending.

How many people attend the seminars?

We limit these seminars so 4 persons only to ensure we can devote plenty of time to meeting your personal needs, so you get the most from the day. You can book an individual place in our secure shop choosing the subject you want to learn, or you can book all 4 places for the whole day and attend with friends, maybe Camera Club or work colleagues.

What do we do for refreshments during the day?

Tea/coffee is provided on arrival and we also break for tea/coffee and biscuits mid morning and during the afternoon session. However, there is unlimited supply of tea and coffee, which can be requested at any time. The day is yours and you can take a break whenever you feel you require it. A buffet lunch is also fully provided again with tea/coffee and fruit juice

What are the subjects/software covered?

Adobe Photoshop - A mix of subjects and techniques that will demonstrate and let you into the secrets of creative image editing, including layers and layer masks.

What level are the seminars pitched at?

To ensure you pick the right seminar for you take a look at the list in our shop. With Photoshop for example, you can select from basic or advanced. You will notice that there is not a seminar targeted at intermediate users. This is because it is impossible to split a program like Photoshop into 3 convenient sections. The basic seminar will stray upwards into intermediate at times and the advanced seminar will drop back into intermediate too. Don't worry, Barry is expert at making sure he identifies your needs for the day and he will make sure you see everything you need. While browsing our shop you can select your subjects too, Digital Audio Visual or Photoshop maybe!

Can I choose my own subjects?

Yes, you can determine the entire day or you can book all 4 places and decide exactly what you wish to see demonstrated. If you book a single place for a subject of your choice you still get a fair degree of choice, but there may be 3 others who want slightly different topics covered. In practice we find that 4 individuals often works best, because what one persons asks, the others are almost certain to be interested in.

Can I bring my own pictures?

If you have a problem image that you wish help with, by all means bring it along on CD/DVD, any USB storage device or flashcard.

Who runs the Seminars?

Barry has been involved with photography for over 35 years and with digital photography from the very early days. He has written for many of the UK digital imaging magazines and is the author of the popular book Digital Photographers Guide to Photoshop Elements. Barry currently writes for Photography Monthly and Professional Photographer, but has done a lot of work for Digital Photo magazine in previous years. Barry became expert at developing and printing via a darkroom so he has seen and experienced both sides of photography, conventional and digital. Barry is also an accomplished photographer and can offer tips and advice to improve the images you you shoot.

Barry now concentrates on lecturing and creating movie tutorials that you will find on sale in our shop.
