In this Photoshop CS 2 - Volume 6 DVD, which is the last of this series we cover a number of filters and other techniques using Photoshop CS 2

As usual with our DVD's they also contain a wealth of tips, tricks and shortcuts to make your life easier and assist you in making manipulations easy.

This DVD contains many of the images we use in our tutorials so you can use our images to practice the techniques, or use our techniques on your own images. Copyright of these images remains with Beckham Digital and the images are enclosed for your use in following the tutorials only.

The DVD covers the following subjects

Filters and Texture Facts 10.23 minutes

Sometimes when we apply filters or textures on our images the result are not so good. To get the best from filters and textures we need to understand a bit more about resolution and how it affects what we do to our images. Here we use an image to practically demonstrate just what we mean.

Turn your image into a Watercolour. - 18.31 minutes

We have used this filter technique for many years in our photography to create something different. Using just the filters within Photoshop CS2 along with layers and blend modes we create a filter affect that you just cannot achieve with a straight button press. This technique features in our galleries, but you can see the effect in a great slide show called "Cornwall" that you can access from the slide show menu Page.

The DRIE Filter Effect. - 07.48 minutes

Once again we demonstrate how the blending of different filter affects using layers and layer blend modes helps us to create something a little more unique.

The Coloured Pencil technique - 04.28 minutes

There are so many ways that we can use our filters in Photoshop that the possibilities are endless. This one uses the coloured pencil filter in default mode, but from here we can experiment and change the colours in the colour picker and the affects are endless.

Recording Actions 13.08 minutes

Photoshop is a complex program and anyone can be forgiven for not looking too hard at actions. After all when we start there is quite enough to learn without adding something that has no effect on our images. Actions are a way we can speed up our work flow and make any task we choose automatic. Here we show you how to create an action to run the watercolour affect we have already demonstrated. It does not replace the hands on approach, but it will let you see in a few seconds if the image chosen lends itself to the watercolour effect or not.

Recording Actions to create your own Shortcut keys - 11.18 minutes

Photoshop gives us many shortcut keys, but did you know you could create your own. Want to spin round that portrait format image 90 degree counter clockwise? Then create an action that works at the touch of one "F" key. Create a one key shortcut action to feather a selection for example, better than remembering the standard one of Ctrl+Alt+D. We show you how.

Creating Droplets - 06.18 minutes

Once an action is recorded we can apply that action to a droplet. What is a droplet? It is an icon we can create on our desktop designed to carry out any function we choose. In our example we convert Raw files to Jpeg, reduce the size and save them back into a folder. Why? So that we have quick and easy images to sort and evaluate, but still have the original Raw files too. Just drag a folder of images over your droplet and make the coffee. Photoshop will do the rest and apply the changes you set to a whole folder of pictures be it 30 images or 300.

Batch Actions - 06.04 minutes

Once we have an action created we can apply that to a batch of images while still within Photoshop. We can determine what folder of images we want to run the action on, we decide what action we want and where the images are saved back to.

A Digital Re-spray - 15.42 minutes

In this tutorial we use digital techniques to re-spray an old car. While to some degree this is a fun tutorial it also covers vital techniques and tips that we will need all through our digital Photography. We use layers, clipping groups, layer masks, the gradient tool and much more. We can create a two tone car from top to bottom or back to front in seconds. We can apply other images to the car to look as if it was sprayed with flowers or colourful wooden soldiers.

Soft Focus via the lighten blend mode - 02.53 minutes

In this short tutorial we demonstrate the standard soft focus effect in Photoshop, but an alternative too.

Saving Individual Layers - 05.06 minutes

Did you know that you can ask Photoshop to save each layer of a multi layered image separately for you. There are many times I have found this invaluable, but probably the best example is when we are creating images for a slide show. We often need to make adjustments to one image and the layers in Photoshop is the best way to do it. To save each layer individually is boring and tedious, but Photoshop will do it for us.
Putting on the Style - 03.36 minutes

In this short demonstration we show you how to apply styles to text, but in fact you can apply styles to any object. Styles come with Photoshop and there is enough in this area of the program alone to keep us busy for days if we wish.

Photoshop Brushes - 21.51 minutes

Here we look into our brush palette and learn how to create our own favourite brushes and store them for our use at any time.

If you are a user of a graphics tablet like a Wacom Graphire you may be interested in how to make adjustments to the pressure settings that affect the brushes. We also look at one or two of the other brush styles that come with Photoshop and use one of those to create our own edge effect for an image. These edge effects can cost us a lot of money as add on filters, but they are easy and fun to create ourselves.

The Text Tool and Text Effects - 21.26 minutes

This area is another part of Photoshop that is so extensive that we could spend weeks on text alone of we wished. We show just some of the effects we can create using text and the tools that affect text.

Creating Web Galleries Automatically in PC 2 - 08.41 minutes

Digital Photography and the web go hand in hand and what better than to have your own personal photo gallery in the form of a web site. We do have a DVD that takes you through how to create a web site, including identify web space, domain names etc. You can find details of that DVD that HERE.

However, Photoshop will help us enormously in creating some quite slick galleries at the touch of a button. In this section we show you how to set up Web Photo Gallery in CS 2.

Moving Selections - Crop and Objects - 03.16 minutes

We often have a need to make fine positioning adjustments to a selection, a crop and/or an object. Use our simple key stokes to make that easy.

Placing multiple pictures on a page quickly and easily - 06.10 minutes

Ever wanted to print 4 different images on an 8 by 10 page. It can be done in Photoshop CS 2 with the Picture Package commands. Here we show you how this all works and how you can edit preset shapes for your personal and special project use.

Save for the Web - 07.15 minutes

Photoshop will assist us to save an image for web site use or as an attachment to an email as small as possible. It does all this while allowing us to see what effect each jpeg compression has on our image. So, we can get our file sizes as small as possible, but without going too far and effecting quality.

Create a simple Animated gif - 04.29 minutes

Using Adobe Image Ready program (a Part of Photoshop CS2) create an animated gif for your web site

Transforming a Selection - 04.50 Minutes

Often we need to select a shape like an oval, maybe the wheel of a car or cart and the elliptical marquee tool is just not right. Then, make a selection and transform the selection into the shape you want.

Creating Shapes - 06.29 Minutes

Create a myriad of shapes and apply those styles for web graphics and all your photographic projects.

The Flood Filter from Flaming Pear - 04.01 Minutes

This is a popular filter among photographers, we show you how to get it and use it.

The Navigator - 01.43 Minutes

I different way to zoom in and out of your images and find your way around them when they are greatly enlarged.

Installing Third Party Filters - 04.46 Minutes

Install your third party filters into a shared plugin folder and point all your image editing and paint programs to it.

Warp an image from the Transform tool - 01.28 Minutes

This short video shows how to warp an image from the transform tool.

Applying Buzz Filters - 02.47 Minutes

Another popular third party plugin filter, that also works very well on those images that are just not sharp enough.
