More
Information

Have you ever looked at your Raw
images using Windows Explorer and wondered where
those extra files came from, they seem to have just
appeared by magic. They are Xmp files and can be
more useful than we first think. Here we explain
what they are and look at the parameters we are
given within Photoshop to store them. Do we want
these files retained as a side car file or kept
in the Raw Database? We know, it all sounds like
double dutch doesn't it, what does it all mean?
Well Xmp files are those files that store the changes
you have made to your Raw files and they are very
useful. Here we try to explain not only what they
are, but suggest the best way to store them via
our preference settings.
A natural follow on to what we are
talking about above is to make use of the Raw tools
like the spot removal tool to remove nasty spots
from the sky of a shot like this. Taken with a wide
angle lens and stopped right down the those usual
feint and tiny dust circles are now not so feint,
or tiny, or few. They are caused by dust on the
chip of our camera and they are all made worse by
wide angle lenses and small apertures. In this video
we look at dealing with them totally in ACR using
the Spot Removal Tool. As usual we follow through
and complete the rest of the work on this image
too all in Adobe Camera Raw
