A New Life in Australia - Click the Map

NEW CONTACTS PAGE

Well, as you can see from the map above Beckham Digital is now based in Australia, Buderim to be exact, which is north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast. You may be surprised to see our web site address still appears in your address bar as www.beckhamdigital.co.uk. Well, the files for a web site can be based anywhere in the world, so there is little point in our moving the actual location of those files, which for interest only are situated in the Isle of Man.

In fact we also now have a second Australian domain name of www.beckhamdigital.com.au. So you can reach our site using any of these addresses.

How does our relocation to Australia change things for regular visitors and new ones? Well, not a lot really. We are now set up the same as we were in the UK and we can accept credit card payments in our shop securely through Worldpay. In addition you can phone your order directly to us and we can now take credit cards over the phone. For the time it takes to make an order in this way, the phone call is not expensive. The number from within Australia is (07) 547 68168 and from the UK it is 00617 68168. For UK customers we are also about to establish a freephone number. Check our contacts page for details of that.

Our prices have now been changed to Australian $, but as you check out of our shop and before you commit to payment, you can see your purchases in either United Kingdom £ - American $ - Australian $

In addition there is a great free web service available at www.xe.com that we have used for years. You can put any currency value in one box and select any currency to convert to and hit go. The web page will do all the work for you and show you the value in your chosen currency. However, it is currently Jan 2009 and our DVD prices have been set at $27 Australian dollars. On www.xe.com on 20th January 2009 $27 Australian dollars equals:-

$18 American dollars

£12.52 United Kingdom Pounds

e13.80 European Euros

Delivery times for all products are 2-3 days in the UK and Australia and obviously longer for any other world destinations.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Carol and Barry have been involved with photography for over 30 years and this web site evolved from their association with photography over that time. Barry began writing step by step tutorials for Digital PhotoFX, now Digital Photo from when that magazine was first launched. That writing had to be curtailed a few years ago when Carol and Barry moved to the City of Ely in Cambridgeshire.

Barry's commute to London each day to work used up most of the time he used to spend writing for Digital Photo. Sadly, it soon became a little too much trying to hold down demanding full time employment, while being committed to Digital Photo. Incidentally Barry's full time employment was not connected to Photography in any way, which has surprised a number of people who just assumed that it was.

In August 2006 Barry retired from the work that he had done for the past 30 years on London's Buses. As Operations Director for two London Companies he felt the time was right to concentrate on other things. This retirement at 57 has allowed Barry to do spend more time on photography, but he says that he has no intention of swapping a job for a job. However, early retirement has allowed Barry and Carol to do their own thing and put more into their tutorials and this web site, but also to enjoy life and their leisure time.

Carol and Barry have built up quite an experience in photography dating back to film, development and darkroom work, through to Audio Visual using twin projectors and now into digital of course. Their work has been 100% digital using Canon SLR digital cameras for many years now.

Barry is the author of a book called The Photographers Guide to Digital Photography, based on Photoshop Elements, which has been updated from the original Elements 2, up through versions 3 and 4. Barry had plans to write a book on digital AV, but publishers are wary about such a venture until the software widely used becomes available for the Mac operating system as well as Windows.

With more time on his hands Barry accepted the invitation to do some writing for Photography Monthly and also Professional Photographer magazines on a freelance basis. Why those magazines? because Will Cheung asked him at a time when he then had the time and the idea appealed to him.

Barry has continued to record movie tutorials and the Beckham Digital DVD Catalogue is growing all the time. Many older titles are now in the process of being updated. Software doesn't stand still and at the time of writing there are many new developments. Barry and Carol's aim is to continue to produce more movie tutorials on DVD, but they are also committed to that one to one personal touch, giving full support and above all retaining good quality recordings that not only educate but inspire too.

Lectures

Check them out before you go on the menus to the left. Barry gives talks at Camera Club evening meetings, but favors full day demos better. He says that there is not quite enough time in the average club evening to cover the subjects at the pace he would like. However, the talks seem to be appreciated and the requests to return to do more come in regularly.

Barry also does small group talks with 4 people and one to one tuition when requested. Details can be found on the menus to the left or via a phone call. Although the move to Australia has meant these seminars have been suspended, please call if you want to get together before he leaves the UK. (This looks like being around October 2008)

Once settled in Australia with their new home Barry and Carol will reintroduce these seminars as well club demos and lectures.
